RCMP Recovers Nearly 400 Vehicles Worth $28M Through Anti-Fraud Pilot Program

August 14, 2026

The RCMP says an anti-fraud pilot program targeting organized vehicle crime has helped recover 392 stolen vehicles worth an estimated $28 million.

Project NoCargo was launched in June 2025 to target transnational organized crime networks that allegedly use stolen or fraudulent personal information to obtain vehicle loans and insurance policies.

Police say the schemes can involve identity fraud and financing applications used to acquire vehicles before they are moved, resold or otherwise incorporated into organized criminal activity.

The RCMP says fraud connected to these schemes contributed to an estimated $900 million in insurance losses last year. The pilot program is part of broader efforts to disrupt organized networks involved in vehicle theft and fraud across Canada.
