Chris has been a litigation lawyer for 34 years, conducting litigation in civil and criminal courts. After his call to the Ontario Bar in 1990, Chris clerked at the Ontario High Court of Justice and Ontario Court General Division (which later became the Ontario Superior Court), working with many judges including with Justice R.F. Reid in the Divisional Court. He then worked for the Ontario government for three years and, following that, for ten years in private law firms in Toronto and Mississauga. Chris then worked for five years conducting litigation at the Department of Justice of Canada after which he moved to the Public Prosecution Service of Canada. In his role with the PPSC, Chris spent fifteen years prosecuting criminal cases, including numerous jury trials, as a Federal Crown Attorney.
With more than three decades of experience, Chris has made thousands of appearances before Federal and Ontario courts and tribunals in Toronto and elsewhere.
Education:
Chris graduated from Queen’s University in 1981 and was awarded the Philosophy Medal. In 1984 he received a Masters of Arts degree in Political Philosophy from the University of Calgary. In 1988, he received a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law.
Credentials:
At times over the past three decades, Chris has served as the Chair of the Administrative Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association and the President of Federal Law Officers of the Crown. As well, Chris was a Governing Council member and Executive member of the Association of Justice Counsel. He is also a director of BluePrint Pathways, which is a federally-incorporated non-profit organization which offers culturally-appropriate programs for youth.

Chris wrote numerous articles and summaries for publication in Reid’s Administrative Law, with Justice R.F. Reid, from 1991 to 1994. In 2000, he made a presentation entitled “Remedies in court for administrative wrongs” to the Canadian Bar Association’s National Administrative Law Conference. In 2006, he presented on “Discovery & the Crown” at the Litigation Against the Crown Conference. Over the last few years, Chris has made many presentations on mental health in the legal profession, including as a panel member with Chief Justice of Ontario George Strathy and Erin Durant at the Advocates’ Society Spring Symposium in 2022.
