Canadian securities regulators say they removed more than 11,700 malicious websites over the past year as part of a broader effort to combat online investment fraud.

The Canadian Securities Administrators reported shutting down 11,728 malicious websites representing 19,860 individual URLs between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026. The sites were identified through technology-enabled fraud detection, according to the organization’s latest Year in Review report.

During the same period, the CSA issued 763 investor alerts, cautions and warnings, with more than 85 per cent involving crypto assets. Members also pursued 13 crypto-related enforcement matters and permanently prohibited 47 companies and individuals from participating in Canadian capital markets.

The organization says its investor education campaign, “Spot the Red Flags of Fraud,” reached 20.4 million Canadians. CSA members also assisted one another and other agencies in 262 enforcement-related matters, including 150 cases involving foreign regulators.

CSA chair Stan Magidson said the organization has increased its efforts to address increasingly sophisticated online fraud while continuing to strengthen investor protection and respond to rapid technological change in financial markets.
