Calgary police say an arrest has been made in connection with a bank fraud scheme that allegedly cost a victim $12,500.

Police had previously asked the public for tips after the incident, which allegedly occurred on May 20. According to police, the victim received a phone call from someone who appeared on caller ID, and verbally identified themselves, as being from BMO’s fraud investigations department.

Police say the caller told the victim that her debit and credit cards had been compromised. The caller also allegedly had key personal information about the victim.

The victim was reportedly convinced to provide her PIN numbers, cut up her cards and hand over the pieces to someone who arrived at her door.

A few hours later, the victim received an actual communication from BMO about a $12,500 transaction at a local casino.

Police say an arrest has now been made in connection with the incident after several tips were received from the public. The suspect has not yet been identified because charges are still pending.

Police said additional information is expected to be released once charges are laid. The investigation remains ongoing.
