Fake Nurse on Vancouver Island Sentenced After Guilty Pleas to Fraud and Impersonation

March 6, 2026

A woman who posed as a registered nurse in British Columbia has been sentenced to 18 months in jail after admitting to fraud, impersonation, and forgery offences tied to falsified credentials.

Charrybelle Talaue pleaded guilty to three counts of fraud, two counts of impersonation, one count of forgery, and five counts of breaching a release order. The charges relate to her attempts to obtain nursing employment using fabricated documents and false representations about her professional qualifications.

Authorities confirmed Talaue was never registered as a nurse in British Columbia. Regulatory colleges in both British Columbia and Alberta had previously issued public advisories warning that she may be attempting to secure hospital work under false pretences.

Police allege the offences began in December 2023 and occurred throughout the Greater Victoria region. Investigators stated that the fraudulent documentation included a forged marriage certificate, Alberta health card, Canadian citizenship certificate, and a name change affidavit. She was also accused of impersonating another individual in connection with her employment efforts.

Talaue was arrested in Idaho in May 2025 and later returned to British Columbia to face charges. After credit for time served in pre-trial custody, she is expected to serve approximately four additional months in prison. She will also be subject to a two-year probation order following her release.

The case highlights ongoing risks associated with credential fraud in regulated professions and underscores the importance of verification safeguards within Canada’s healthcare system.
