Halton Regional Police have charged a 55-year-old man accused of posing as a lawyer while collecting payments from individuals seeking Canadian work permits and permanent residency.
An Etobicoke man is facing a fraud charge following an investigation into allegations that he falsely represented himself as a legal professional while providing immigration-related services. Halton Regional Police identified the accused as Kishorbhai Patel, 55, who also used the name Kishor Patel. Investigators allege that he presented himself as a lawyer and legal expert to individuals seeking assistance with immigration applications. Police confirmed that Patel is not licensed to practise law.
According to investigators, Patel allegedly operated under the business names ProLaw Canada Corporation LLP and Canadian International Business Corporation. He reportedly offered services to individuals seeking Canadian work permits and permanent residency while presenting himself as qualified to provide legal assistance.
Police allege that between October 2025 and January 2026, multiple individuals approached Patel for assistance with their immigration applications. During this period, the individuals made several payments for his services. The investigation focused on allegations that Patel misrepresented his professional qualifications while offering immigration-related assistance.
Following the investigation, Halton Regional Police charged Patel with one count of fraud over $5,000. Authorities have not disclosed the total amount of money involved or the number of individuals identified in the investigation. The allegation against Patel has not been proven in court.
Halton Regional Police are appealing to anyone who may have additional information about the case or believes they may have experienced similar conduct.
