A former Ontario lawyer and past president of the York Region Law Society has been sentenced to three years in prison after being convicted of defrauding clients and repeatedly forging court documents.

Adam White was sentenced July 29 after an Ontario Court of Justice judge found that he misled clients for years by creating false endorsements, communications and documents that made it appear their legal matters were progressing when they were not. White had been found guilty of fraud and forgery offences earlier this year.

One case involved a client whose wrongful dismissal lawsuit had been dismissed in 2019 after nobody attended court. Prosecutors said White did not tell the client and instead continued sending false messages and fabricated court documents until the client learned the truth in 2023. A second case involved a family-law client who was also provided with false court documents suggesting progress had been made.

White, whose law licence was revoked by the Law Society Tribunal in 2024, received consecutive and concurrent prison terms totalling three years and was also ordered to pay a $2,825 fine. The sentencing judge previously described his conduct as an elaborate pattern of deception maintained over several years.
