Halifax Police Lay Multiple Fraud Charges Against Montreal Man

March 13, 2026

Halifax Regional Police have charged a 53-year-old Montreal man following an investigation into an alleged “family emergency” fraud scheme that targeted victims in Halifax Regional Municipality. Police say the accused is facing multiple fraud-related charges and believe there may be additional victims.

Halifax Regional Police have laid multiple fraud charges against a Montreal man in connection with an investigation into an alleged scam that targeted residents in Halifax Regional Municipality.

Police say the investigation began in November 2024 after several victims reported receiving phone calls from someone pretending to be a family member who had been arrested. According to investigators, victims were then contacted by another person posing as someone connected to the legal system and were asked to send money to secure the release of their loved one.

Regional police said they received similar reports again in January 2025. As the investigation progressed, officers determined that the same suspect was allegedly involved in both sets of incidents.

The accused has been identified as 53-year-old Amcet Ricaldy-Solorzano of Montreal. He is expected to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face several charges, including seven counts of fraud over $5,000, seven counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, one count of fraud under $5,000, one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and one count of participating in a criminal organization.

Police also said the accused is currently serving a sentence in Ontario for similar crimes.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward. Authorities are encouraging anyone who believes they may have been affected by a similar fraud to contact Halifax Regional Police or Crime Stoppers.
